New championship, new rivals. Mičánek Motorsport will compete in the GT2 European Series for the first time

After six seasons capped with the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe title, Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra is now lining up for a new championship. Reigning European champions Bronislav Formánek and Štefan Rosina will make their GT2 European Series debut on Sunday behind the wheel of the Lamborghini Huracán ST EVO2.

The Lamborghini Huracán, with which the team achieved success in the brand championship, is a newcomer to the GT2 European Series grid. “No team has yet completed a full season with this car, so we’re curious to see how it measures up against other brands. From the very first practice, we’re making the most of the time we have. We know we’re fast, but qualifying will be key,” said team manager Jiří Mičánek Jr.

For the very first time, Bronislav Formánek sat behind the wheel of the Huracán in GT2 specification. For the experienced driver, it also meant a return to his “favourite” Pirelli tyres after two years. “From the very first moment, it’s been a very welcome change. The car works well, has fantastic grip, and behaves completely differently,” Formánek compared the car’s characteristics to last year, when the team ran on Hankook tyres.

The Huracán, running in Czech national colours, will compete on track against cars from three other brands – alongside Lamborghini, the series features AMG, Maserati, and KTM. One of the key factors influencing the performance of each car will be the race director’s decision on BoP – balance of performance.

„That’s why we approach this with humility after the first tests, we can’t draw any conclusions yet. BoP will be one of the key factors,” explained Štefan Rosina, who previously competed in the GT2 series before joining Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra, securing the runner-up position in the European championship.

Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra will be looking to build on the results they’ve achieved at Paul Ricard in previous years. “In 2021, Broněk and Pepa Záruba scored their very first victory in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo here,” recalled Jiří Mičánek. Štefan Rosina has similar memories, having claimed second place overall in the GT2 European Series in France three years ago.

„It’s a very specific circuit, demanding on both the driver and the car. The first and third sectors are very technical, while the middle sector is extremely fast, featuring a straight split by a chicane, where we brake from around 270 km/h,” explained Josef Záruba, who is at Paul Ricard with the team as chief engineer for the Formánek-Rosina pairing.

The team will begin qualifying on Saturday at 15:00, with the pair of one-hour races kicking off on Sunday at 9:00 and 14:55.
