Two years ago in Barcelona, Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra celebrated the team’s first-ever double victory in Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe. Now, the racing series returns to the Catalan circuit, with the Huracán grid facing a triple-header of races.
„We have the best memories of Barcelona; the circuit suits us perfectly. We’ll be looking to build on 2022, when Broněk Formánek and Karol Basz took two victories,” highlights team manager Jiří Mičánek jr., recalling the remarkable achievement. This time, Bronislav Formánek will aim to replicate that success, now paired with Štefan Rosina. The duo currently leads the Pro-AM class in the series and will be looking to consolidate their position in Barcelona.
He will even have three attempts, as the newly modified F1 circuit will host an additional race to replace the cancelled Le Mans event. “Since we’re strong on this track, it plays perfectly into our hands,” emphasises Jiří Mičánek. The team will field two cars – alongside Formánek and Rosina in the PRO-AM class, the junior duo Jáchym Galáš and Matěj Pavlíček will compete in the PRO category.
The entire Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe grid will have to contend with the track’s new layout. The chicane in the final sector has been removed, so cars are expected to run significantly faster. “It’s a major change, and the new section will be more challenging,” predicts Bronislav Formánek. He is confident, however, that the excellent results they have historically enjoyed at the Catalan circuit won’t be affected. “Besides our Super Trofeo victories, we also won here twice with Pepa Záruba in Radicals eleven years ago. I don’t want to jinx it, but this is a track where we know we can be quick,” he adds.
Štefan Rosina approaches the race weekend with a sense of humility – particularly given that three races await the drivers. Beyond the demands on both machinery and physical stamina, there is the added pressure that this weekend could prove decisive in the title fight, where Rosina and Formánek currently hold a comfortable 18-point lead. “These are the most important races of the season,” notes the Slovak driver, who is familiar with the circuit from his previous stint in the Porsche Sports Cup.
While Rosina and Formánek kept themselves busy with an alternative racing programme during the long break, the junior pairing of Jáchym Galáš and Matěj Pavlíček will be returning to the cockpit of the Lamborghini Huracán after ten weeks. Both drivers spent the time honing their skills on the simulator and focusing on their physical preparation. “Honestly – that break was the toughest part of the season for me,” Jáchym Galáš admits with a smile.
He is heading to a circuit he knows from his previous experience in touring cars, which, of course, feature a completely different car concept. “Once again, qualifying will be crucial. Every race has shown that the outcome is often decided there,” says the 22-year-old driver. Matěj Pavlíček faces an even tougher starting point, as he has so far only experienced the Catalan circuit through the simulator. “It’s a track that could suit me – it’s not fundamentally different from the circuits I’m comfortable with,” Galáš’s teammate observes ahead of the race weekend.
