Breaking the Spa barrier: Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra takes second place from the “cursed” circuit

The unlucky streak at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit has come to an end. Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra secured second place in the second round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe series, achieved by Bronislav Formánek and Štefan Rosina in the first race. The second race, however, was cut short by a red flag.

The second round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe series kicked off alongside the FIA WEC endurance championship, and Mičánek Motorsport leaves the championship weekend with a trophy for second place in the Pro-AM class. “Štefan and Broňek did a fantastic job. Štefan got the race off to a strong start, and Broňek kept up the fight to finish in second,” evaluates team manager Jiří Mičánek Jr., reflecting on the Pro-AM crew’s performance.

The duo delivered another well-coordinated performance, even though Rosina and Formánek have very different relationships with the legendary circuit. “I absolutely love this track, I’ve known it for twenty years, and I enjoy how fast it is,” confides Rosina. He demonstrated this in qualifying, although a valuable few tenths were lost due to a penalty for exceeding the speed limit in the pit lane.

For Bronislav Formánek, on the other hand, the Spa circuit has always felt somewhat cursed. “I’m really happy with second place. I see it this way: Spa is the track where, on paper, we usually struggle the most. So from here on, it can only get better,” says Formánek.

In the second race, which was cut short by a red flag, Formánek and Rosina were officially classified in sixth place. In reality, only a few minutes of the fifty-minute race were run under green flag conditions. Due to competitors’ accidents, the field spent most of the time behind the safety car, after which the race direction halted the event and, because of time constraints, did not restart it. “Officially we’re sixth, but we don’t yet know whether full points will be awarded or if they’ll be halved. After the first race, we were leading the Pro-Am championship, so now we’re waiting on the final results,” explained Jiří Mičánek the day after the race.

The junior pairing of Jáchym Galáš and Matěj Pavlíček also gained valuable experience at Spa-Francorchamps. Galáš fought hard in qualifying, but his chances of a fast lap were compromised by traffic and slower cars. “Unfortunately, I couldn’t complete a single clean lap. On what would have been my best lap, I caught slower cars at the end of the circuit preparing for their own flying laps,” explains the twenty-two-year-old driver. Matěj Pavlíček, meanwhile, had to make the most of a situation where he barely knew the track, making his debut there. He entered qualifying after managing only three fast laps in free practice. Despite this, the duo finished the first race sixteenth in the top PRO class.

In the second race, Matěj Pavlíček managed to gain several positions right after the start, but his progress was again halted by the safety car and yellow flags. Once he handed the car over to Galáš, a red flag was brought out. “I wish I could say something positive, but this weekend didn’t go according to our expectations at all. The red flag in the second race came at a very unfortunate moment, and it’s a shame the race was then ended,” Pavlíček concludes.

Jiří Mičánek believes that in the next race, once again held as part of the WEC World Championship during the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, the situation will be clearer and the races will run without major incidents. “The Lamborghini Super Trofeo is undoubtedly the most prestigious one-make series in the world, but at the moment we’re paying the price for just how popular it is and how many cars are competing. I believe that next time we’ll see a normal race, where the results are decided purely by our performance on track, with minimal intervention from race direction,” concludes the team manager.
