Jiří Mičánek Jr. leaves the traditional hillclimb event in Náměšť nad Oslavou with two second-place finishes to his name. The Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra team manager had taken almost a year away from competitive driving, but on his return to the cockpit he proved he had lost none of his pace, matching last season’s times. He set a best run of 1:01.30 on the two-kilometre course, which features an elevation gain of 106 metres.
“I’d like to thank everyone who came out to the event and also stopped by our paddock. Náměšť is almost a home round for me, and that was clear again this weekend. The atmosphere here is always fantastic, with plenty of opportunity to connect with the fans,” said Mičánek after returning to the wheel of the Lamborghini Huracán.
“In terms of the result, second place in Group 2 and seventh overall is the absolute maximum we can achieve with the Huracán against a field of cars purpose-built for hillclimbs. I’m extremely satisfied – this marks six consecutive race weekends in Náměšť where we’ve finished on the podium,” he added.
The weekend programme in Náměšť was disrupted by a number of incidents, with medical crews called into action on several occasions to assist injured drivers. The most serious accident, involving Pavel Bejda, occurred towards the end of Sunday’s schedule. As a result, part of the field was unable to take part in the third run, which was ultimately cancelled by the organisers. “In our case it might have meant a slight improvement in our time, but it wouldn’t have changed the final result. The important thing is that everyone is hopefully going to be alright,” Mičánek noted.
He was beaten only by Milan Langer, who competes with an all-wheel-drive machine. Third place behind Mičánek went to Martin Jerman, also driving a Lamborghini Huracán.
“I’m pleased to be back in the Czech championship and I hope to contest more events this season than last year, when the hillclimbs often clashed with other series. We already know we should be at Ústecká 21, and we’ll aim to make our debut at Ecce Homo as well,” Mičánek outlined.
The team will be back in action at the end of this week for the second round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe. Bronislav Formánek and Anthony Pretorius will head to Imola looking to defend their Pro-Am championship lead, while a second Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra entry will compete in the AM class.
