Bronislav Formánek and Anthony Pretorius are European champions in the prestigious Lamborghini Super Trofeo series. The drivers managed by Jiří Mičánek Jr. won the penultimate race of the season at Monza, securing the Pro-AM title with a round to spare. Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra has now claimed its third consecutive European title.
“This is something no Czech team has ever achieved in the history of motorsport. First and foremost, I want to thank our team members, who have been pushed to their limits several times throughout the year, including here at Monza. My thanks also go to all our drivers. Broněk and Anthony delivered a fantastic performance today, confirming what they have been demonstrating all season. From the very beginning, we said we wanted to fight for the title this year, and we’ve done it,” said Jiří Mičánek Jr., head of the newly crowned championship-winning team. This year’s Lamborghini Super Trofeo title extends the team’s run of championship triumphs, which began in 2024. Mičánek Motorsport won Lamborghini Super Trofeo that year before claiming the GT2 European Series title last season.
Anthony Pretorius set the title-winning campaign in motion in qualifying, topping the overall standings. A chaotic start to the race, featuring several minor collisions, saw him drop two places overall, but he comfortably retained the lead in the crucial Pro-AM class. Bronislav Formánek then brought the car home in the same position, with the crew finishing fifth overall. “I still wanted to fight and hold on to third place overall, but even my engineer was telling me over the radio not to take any risks or get involved in battles,” explained Formánek. Together with Pretorius, he secured the championship at the first opportunity. “I’m glad we’ll be able to approach tomorrow’s race with a clear head and simply enjoy it. Winning the title means we’ve achieved our mission. It’s been our goal from the very beginning,” said the talented 19-year-old driver.
Despite securing the title, Thursday’s action in Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe proved bittersweet for Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra. The crew of car No. 46, Jakub Knoll and Renaud Kuppens, also had a chance to consolidate their position at the top of the European championship standings. However, their Huracán suffered a catastrophic engine failure during Wednesday’s practice sessions.
The team worked overnight to install a replacement engine, only for the new unit to suffer from a manufacturing defect as well. “Unfortunately, the repairs meant we couldn’t get out on track in time for the race. The guys did everything they could, and we eventually made it out, but we were about four minutes short of the time needed to be classified,” said Jiří Mičánek. As a result, Knoll and Kuppens saw their comfortable 15-point lead shrink to just two points. The AM title will therefore be decided in a direct battle against the crew of car No. 27, driven by Rodrigue Gillion and Stéphane Lémeret. “The maths are straightforward: ideally, we need to finish ahead of them. There are also scenarios in which we could win the title even if they finish in front of us, but we’ll do everything we can to win it on points and avoid having to rely on tie-breakers,” Jiří Mičánek concluded.
Fans in the Czech Republic will once again be able to watch Friday’s race on free-to-air television. Prima Sport will broadcast the race live at 12:30 pm.
