Second race of the year in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo and a second victory. Bronislav Formánek and Štefan Rosina dominated the opening race of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo weekend in Barcelona, despite making only their second appearance in the series this season. Alongside their triumph in the Pro-Am class, the duo also achieved their best overall result together to date.
Fifth overall, first in Pro-Am, and the best Czech crew — three remarkable achievements that Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra will be taking home from the opening race in Barcelona. “It’s an exceptional result that Broňa and Štefan earned purely on track, through direct battles with their rivals. There was no luck involved, no mistakes from others to capitalise on. This proves once again that we belong among Europe’s elite and can hold our own even in such fierce competition,” said team manager Jiří Mičánek.
Together with their engineers, Formánek and Rosina spent Friday’s practice sessions fine-tuning the car’s setup, focusing mainly on adapting to the Hankook tyres — only their second outing on them this season. Rosina started the race from 12th overall but quickly worked his way into the top ten, handing the car over to Formánek with a crucial gap to their key Pro-Am rivals and running third in class.
“I managed to get a decent gap off the line and made such a good start that I got ahead of three cars and some very strong rivals,” explained Štefan Rosina as he described the opening half of the race. “I wasn’t sure I could hold the position, but it worked out. I knew Broňa could push forward, but he also had some very fast drivers right behind him, so I wasn’t certain he’d be able to keep them at bay.” That period was interrupted by the deployment of the safety car, which bunched the entire starting field together.
Formánek had two rivals ahead of him but also had to defend his position from the charging Dimitry Enjalbert and Renaud Kuppens behind. “I knew there were two cars in front, I overtook one fairly quickly, and I lined up the second for the very last lap. He was slowing me down a bit, but we didn’t want to risk a penalty for exceeding track limits,” Formánek explained.
Plan for the new GT2 European Series champions. Formánek crossed the finish line fifth overall and first in the Pro-Am class. The fifth-place overall finish marks the team’s best result in several years and a career high for the Formánek–Rosina pairing, who competed in the series in 2024 and went on to claim the Pro-Am championship title.
“After our first start of the season at the Nürburgring, where we also won the opening race, we’ve clearly reaffirmed our position in Super Trofeo just as dominantly as we’ve been performing this year in the GT2 European Series. I have to thank the entire team and our engineers. Thanks to excellent teamwork, we can operate extremely efficiently, set up the car very well even without testing opportunities, and give our drivers the chance to showcase their true strengths,” concluded Jiří Mičánek.
Rivals dealt the cards for Sunday’s race straight in the first corner. After a collision involving several cars, Formánek was forced off track onto the gravel, dropping nine positions. “I knew I had to push through the gravel, even if it meant risking a penalty. Gradually, I clawed back around ten places before the safety car was deployed following another incident,” Formánek explained.
He handed the car over to Rosina in fourth place in the Pro-Am class, still under yellow flags and the safety car. After the restart, Rosina first had to defend his position from Miloś Pavlović, while overtaking two Pro-Am rivals, crossing the finish line third in class and eleventh overall. Once Formánek’s first-lap manoeuvre penalty was applied, the crew dropped to twelfth overall, but their Pro-Am podium finish remained secure. “It was tough, but I enjoyed it. Broňa was lucky in his misfortune; he had no other chance. I’m glad we managed to see it through. Looking back, there hasn’t been a single weekend this year where we haven’t come away with a podium finish. That doesn’t happen often. The team deserves a big thank you for that,” said Štefan Rosina.
“On Sunday, we confirmed that we belong among the very best. To finish two such challenging races on the podium winning one of them without competing in the championship regularly is truly exceptional,” concluded Jiří Mičánek.
