Champions! Mičánek Motorsport clinch GT2 European Series title early with victory in Valencia

21/09/2025

Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra has claimed the GT2 European Series crown. Bronislav Formánek and Štefan Rosina secured the Pro-Am class title with a round to spare at Valencia, the fifth of six events in the calendar. The decisive moment came in Sunday’s race, when the team’s sole rival made a mistake in the rain and crashed.

“It was an extremely tough weekend for us. We faced technical issues, Štefan was battling a viral infection, and we had the worst BoP of the season. That we were still able to clinch the title here is an extraordinary achievement,” says Jiří Mičánek jr., team manager of Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra.

The team headed to Valencia with a 46-point lead over their closest rivals, Dinamic Motorsport in Maserati. However, from the start of the weekend, the Maseratis benefited from a favourable BoP and pulled more than half a second clear of the rest of the field in qualifying. Maserati went on to win the first race, with Štefan Rosina crossing the line in third place.

“At that point, we knew the only way to secure the Sunday race was for the Maserati not to score, and for us to finish at least second. And that’s exactly what happened,” Mičánek explains. Midway through the race, a light rain began to fall at the Valencia circuit, and Mauro Calamia, leading in his Maserati, lost control and ended up in the gravel.
But the drama wasn’t over for the team. “During the very first stint, our car started showing significant vibrations. We’re not sure yet what caused it, but we suspect a wheel hub issue. Towards the end, Broněk had to slow down considerably just to bring the car home,” Mičánek added.
“The vibrations became extreme towards the end. I was focusing solely on bringing the car home and securing the points we needed,” Formánek said.

According to Rosina, the key to clinching the title was consistent performance throughout the season. “In the two years we’ve been racing together, we’ve finished every single race,” emphasises Štefan Rosina, who had twice come close to winning the GT2 European Series title in previous years, only to narrowly miss out. This season, alongside Formánek, he claimed five victories and stood on the podium nine times.

Nevertheless, Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra will head to Barcelona. “We plan to return to the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe for the weekend and race against our rivals from last year. In a way, it will be a reward for the entire season,” Mičánek said.
Over the past three years, he and his team have secured five championship titles – two European and three Czech.
