Front row start. That’s the result of Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra’s qualifying session for the opening round of the GT2 European Series at Paul Ricard. The pairing of Bronislav Formánek and Štefan Rosina set the fastest and second-fastest times in their series debut.
„We’re confirming what we said before the season: we have fast drivers who will clearly be among the best on the grid,” commented team manager Jiří Mičánek Jr. He emphasised that both drivers achieved the excellent result despite only joining the GT2 European Series on Friday for the first free tests at Paul Ricard. “Štefan and I only tested before the races at the Slovakiaring, and Broněk drove the car for the first time just yesterday,” Mičánek noted. “The car performs brilliantly on the new tyres,” he added.
Bronislav Formánek dominated his part of qualifying, setting a time of 2:05.445 to take pole position for Sunday’s first race. Second-placed Philippe Prette in the Maserati was 0.331 seconds behind Formánek. In the second part of qualifying, Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra swapped positions with their main rival, LP Racing. Štefan Rosina set the second-fastest time of the opening GT2 European Series round with a 2:04.014, just 0.189 seconds shy of Eddie Cheever in the Maserati. “Both results confirm that we have an exceptionally strong driver line-up, rightfully crowned last year’s Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe champions, and they can aim for similar ambitions this year. With Štefan, we know there was still some room for improvement in qualifying, and we can go even faster,” assessed Jiří Mičánek.
Bronislav Formánek will start from pole position in his first GT2 European Series race at 9:00, while the second race, with Štefan Rosina starting from the front row, begins at 14:55. Both events can be watched via the live stream on the GT2 European Series website.
