A race weekend where every point counts. That’s what the fourth round of the GT2 European Series in Misano promises to be, as Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra aims to defend its currently dominant position in the series. However, the challenge will be considerably tougher than at the previous round: the team’s Lamborghini Huracán ST EVO2 will carry additional ballast for their victory at Spa.
In Misano, two factors will be decisive, one positive, one negative. The positive is that we know the track well, it suits our drivers, and we have a strong record here. The negative is the disadvantageous balance of performance we received for our victory at Spa,” explained team manager Jiří Mičánek Jr.
The Huracán in team colors, driven by Bronislav Formánek and Štefan Rosina, will hit the track this weekend with extra weight and higher ground clearance. “The disadvantage is similar to what we faced in the second round at Zandvoort. Our rivals will have the advantage, but just like in Zandvoort, we’ll still aim to fight for the top positions,” Jiří Mičánek said, comparing the upcoming race weekend to that one, where despite the unfavourable BoP, Formánek and Rosina won one race and finished a close second in the other.
Two more crews will be joining the GT2 European Series with Lamborghini Huracán ST EVO2 cars from the same from the same series as Jiří Mičánek’s team, namely the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe series. “I’m looking forward to measuring ourselves against the same cars for the first time since the end of last season, and I’m curious to see how we’ll perform in their competition,” said Bronislav Formánek. “At Misano, we’ll benefit from the experience we’ve gained here in Super Trofeo Europe. We know the track, we know how to set up the car, we’ve raced it on the Pirelli tyres we’re using now, and it suits me,” Formánek listed as positive factors. It was at Misano in the 2022 season that Formánek first triumphed alongside Polish driver Karol Basz, with whom he then formed a successful pairing for the 2023 season as well.
Formánek and Rosina now defend a generous 47-point lead at the top of the championship, but the experienced Slovak driver warns that the team is likely facing the toughest weekend of the season. “This time I won’t say that our goal is to win — the BoP has changed significantly against us. We want to finish the races and secure as many points as possible, especially against our main rivals in the title fight,” Štefan Rosina said with humility.
Both drivers will hit the scorching Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, located on the Adriatic coast, already on Thursday during the free tests. “We’ll try to make the most of the track time to test how the car behaves,” explains Jiří Mičánek. He is also curious about how their performance will compare to other Huracáns driven by former rivals from the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe. “So far, we only know the team names and not the driver lineups for the Lamborghinis. But I hope it will be an interesting competition that we can measure ourselves against — and show that we truly earned last year’s European Super Trofeo title,” concludes Jiří Mičánek.
