One step back, two steps forward. After securing the European title in the GT2 European Series, Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra is returning to the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe, the championship it dominated in the 2024 season.
Bronislav Formánek will have a new team-mate behind the wheel of the Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2. The talented Anthony Pretorius from South Africa joins the line-up. “GT2 European Series was completed as a successful one-year project. However, the whole team felt that Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe represents a much bigger challenge for us as the fastest one-make championship in the world. After two years and two titles, we want to go for a third title in our third year. Anthony, with his speed and potential, fits perfectly into that plan,” says team manager Jiří Mičánek Jr.
Team manager Jiří Mičánek Jr. outlines the reasons why the 18-year-old talent from South Africa is the right choice. “We were looking for new young blood, but with experience at the same time. That’s exactly what we found in Anthony. He already gained experience in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe last season, where he claimed one overall victory and several podium finishes. Together with Broněk and his experience and current form, they can create a winning pairing with the ambition of taking the title in the Pro-Am class.”
“A partnership like this is exactly what I needed to move forward. My job now is to deliver strong results for the team,” explains Anthony Pretorius when speaking about the reasons behind signing with Jiří Mičánek’s squad. The two already knew each other from last season, having crossed paths both on track and in the paddock. In the end, it was Pretorius himself who made the first move. “That’s right. We made it clear we were open to new drivers, and Anthony got in touch to say he would be interested in racing with us,” adds Jiří Mičánek Jr.. “After the first tests, I can say he is exactly the kind of driver we were looking for. Fast, motivated, ambitious and very disciplined. His level is also confirmed by the fact that he is part of the Lamborghini Young Drivers Programme for the most promising talents of his generation.”
With the Formánek–Pretorius line-up, the team aims to build on the success of the 2024 season and fight for the title once again. “After the first tests at Autodromo Nazionale Monza we know we have a very quick pairing. Anthony will undoubtedly be among the fastest drivers in PRO, while Broněk is consistently at the front of AM. We believe it could be a winning combination, but at the same time we approach the season with humility. We realise we are returning to an extremely competitive environment, with a large number of cars on track and a huge margin for mistakes or even pure chance. In the past two seasons, what proved crucial was that we finished every race, scored consistently, avoided mistakes and had no technical issues,” Mičánek reflects.
Bronislav Formánek is also preparing for the new challenge. After many years, he will once again share the cockpit with a team-mate from a completely different generation. “I’m really looking forward to it. He’s extremely quick and, as a person, a very humble and easy-going guy. The fact that he’s half my age is actually a plus for me. I believe we both have plenty we can learn from each other,” says Bronislav Formánek. Formánek is equally excited about returning to the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe. “We’ll be facing tougher conditions, stronger rivals and a larger grid. It’s going to be hard racing, but that’s exactly what motivates me and what I enjoy.”
At the opening round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe at Circuit Paul Ricard, fans will see two cars running in the colours of Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra. “Jakub Knoll, who won the Czech circuit racing title with us in both 2024 and 2025, has been saying for quite some time that he would like to return to European circuits. We agreed that he would line up in the opening race of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, and afterwards we will evaluate whether to continue in the series or focus primarily on the Czech and Central European circuit championships,” explains Jiří Mičánek Jr.
Jakub Knoll will return to the European stage after a two-year break. Until 2023, he competed in the GT4 European Series with Mercedes-AMG machinery. However, he was not fully satisfied with the lower performance of the cars, which is why he returned to the wheel of a Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, a car he already knew from his earlier stint with the team led by Jiří Mičánek Jr..
“Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe is a very tough championship and it will certainly be much harder to succeed there. On the other hand, that level of difficulty is exactly what motivates me, even if it means my chances of success are smaller,” says Jakub Knoll ahead of the season. He also took part in pre-season testing at Autodromo Nazionale Monza.
Following the Monza tests, the team is also considering entering the opening round of the GT2 European Series as a wild-card entry. Their main focus, however, will remain on the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe.
The season will begin at Circuit Paul Ricard during the weekend of 10–12 April. The championship consists of six rounds, with the title fight set to conclude in early November at the legendary Autodromo Nazionale Monza. The final round of the European season will then be followed by the traditional world final, bringing together the best teams from the three continental series. “That’s another milestone we’re aiming for this season. We haven’t yet managed to achieve a major result at the world final, so if the opportunity comes, we’ll certainly try to change that,” says Bronislav Formánek.
At the end of the season, a new challenge will arrive. The current generation of the Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 will be replaced by an all-new model, the Lamborghini Temerario Super Trofeo. “The arrival of the Temerario is one of the reasons why we decided to return to Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe,” explains Jiří Mičánek Jr.. “We want to be among the first teams to get our hands on the car, and starting the 2027 season with it will be an enormous challenge for us.”
