To defend their lead in the GT2 European Series and ideally extend their points advantage over rivals in the title fight. These are the two main objectives for Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra as they head to the most-watched race of the season. In Belgium, they will take to the track alongside the world’s most prestigious GT event – the 24H Spa.
„It’s undoubtedly the highlight of the season, with tens of thousands of fans, an exceptional atmosphere, and an iconic circuit,” lists team manager Jiří Mičánek Jr., who will send the duo Bronislav Formánek – Štefan Rosina to the race. The Czechoslovak pairing, reigning European champions of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series, will defend a 28-point lead at the top of the championship. “We’re heading to Spa as the strongest team in the series, and we intend to maintain that position. Just like last year, when we won the European title in Lamborghini Super Trofeo, it’s crucial for us to be consistent, score points, and avoid mistakes,” Jiří Mičánek added.
After two dominant rounds, in which the team left with maximum points each time, Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra now faces another challenge with weight adjustments under the Balance of Performance system. “We have to approach it with humility. BoP changes from race to race are unpredictable, so it’s hard to say how things will go. Personally, I’d like to leave with good points and confirm our championship lead,” says Štefan Rosina. It was precisely BoP adjustments and last-minute changes that complicated the team’s bid for maximum points in the second round of the season at Zandvoort. The Lamborghini Huracán ST EVO2 in the Czech national colours is expected to receive some weight relief this time, but rivals will gain an even greater advantage.
Bronislav Formánek is also approaching the Spa race weekend with humility. Last year, alongside Rosina, he broke the team’s long-standing run of misfortune at the legendary and extremely demanding circuit by securing a third-place finish. “I’m looking forward to the parade lap through the town and the incredible atmosphere, but it’s no secret that this isn’t my favourite track. We’ll see how the BoP affects our performance. Honestly, I’d prefer it to be wet, where conditions tend to even out,” says Formánek.
Thanks to its link-up with the 24 Hours of Spa, the team faces an unusual “weekend” format. The GT2 European Series grid has practice sessions and pre-qualifying scheduled for Thursday, with qualifying and the first race taking place on Friday. Teams will then head out for the second race early on Saturday morning, ahead of the start of the 24-hour race itself.
