Unplanned winning double: Knoll and Záruba extend their lead in endurance racing, with Mičánek and Dvořáček close on their heels

It came as a surprise – two Lamborghini Huracáns from the Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra team lined up for the second round of the ESET Cup endurance race. The driver pairing Jakub Knoll – Josef Záruba, aiming for the championship title, were joined by Jiří Mičánek and Libor Dvořáček. In the end, the “regular” Knoll-Záruba duo emerged victorious from the Lamborghini showdown, with Jiří Mičánek and Libor Dvořáček finishing right behind them.

„We waited to decide on running two cars until we were sure the whole weekend would run smoothly. After all, it was our sixth race weekend in a row, and we didn’t want to add extra work for the team,” explains Jiří Mičánek about the surprising two-car entry. In the race, the team went on to confirm its dominance in the GTC class, with Jakub Knoll and Josef Záruba finishing third overall.

They came close to fighting for the win, but the team was unlucky when a full-course yellow came out just as Jakub Knoll pulled into the pits for a driver change. The other competitors made their stops under the yellow flags, and it’s estimated that Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra lost several dozen seconds as a result. They had been only around forty seconds off the lead. “For our rivals, it was essentially a free pit stop. I believe that if it hadn’t happened, we would have finished a position higher overall,” says Jakub Knoll.

Josef Záruba echoes that sentiment. “At least now we know that aiming for the top step of the podium is within reach,” he adds, supporting his teammate. He also praises the mechanics’ work: “We set up the car perfectly, even though it meant the guys spent three hours tinkering instead of having a break. But it paid off, and I have to thank them for that.”

Jiří Mičánek shares the same view. “This was our sixth race weekend in a row, and thanking the whole team now is far from a cliché. Everyone did their jobs brilliantly, we brought home a trophy from each weekend, and it’s a great demonstration of how strong our team is,” says the team principal. He capped the six-week marathon with a champagne shower on the podium alongside his teammates. “I had a fantastic time racing, enjoyed plenty of overtaking, and we even climbed up to second in the GTC class,” he reflects on his unexpected stint behind the wheel of the Lamborghini Huracán ST EVO2. He also praises the performance of the second crew: “Jakub Knoll genuinely impressed me. He set excellent lap times and proves that, in this form, he and Pepa can realistically aim for the title,” adds Mičánek.

Libor Dvořáček took to the track for the Sunday double of sprint races representing Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra. A promising first race was cut short by an unavoidable collision with a rival in the second corner, sending the team’s Huracán into the pits. In the second race, another unintended contact occurred. “The steering wheel was twisted about 60 degrees after it, but I told myself I owed it to the team to finish the race,” Dvořáček explains, ultimately crossing the line in fifth place.

He did, however, get to enjoy the podium celebrations on Saturday alongside Jiří Mičánek after the endurance race. “I believe I delivered the car to Juro in good shape, and he was then able to gain a few positions, putting us just behind Jakub and Pepa,” says Dvořáček.

After the conclusion of the six-week tour, the team now has three weeks to focus on rest and prepare the cars for one of the highlights of the season. Unusually held midweek, the third round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe will kick off as part of the racing programme for the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans.
