Bronislav Formánek and Štefan Rosina claimed an exceptionally valuable victory in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe race at the Nürburgring. The reigning Pro-Am champions made their first appearance of the season as wild card entries with the Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra team. They dominated the Pro-Am class and finished eighth overall.
“It’s a huge success and clear proof that we belong among Europe’s absolute elite. I don’t think any of our rivals expected this from us. Within the team, we said we’d like to fight for a podium finish — but winning the class and taking eighth place overall in a 34-car field is something truly special,” said Jiří Mičánek Jr., team manager of Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra.
Formánek and Rosina managed to take the victory despite the fact that they only hit the track on this year’s Hankook tyre specification for the first time during Friday’s free practice. “In reality, before qualifying we had only a few dozen minutes to get a feel for the new tyres. On top of that, we were dealing with a specific technical issue, so the work went on late into the night. Huge thanks to the team, who worked tirelessly right through to Saturday,” added Mičánek.
Both drivers were able to capitalise from the start on the fact that the Nürburgring perfectly suits their driving style — Formánek and Rosina have both achieved several outstanding results there in the past. “On top of that, we’re in great form, we’ve done plenty of testing, we know how to set up the car, and the tyres have also improved compared to last year,” the team principal listed as the key factors behind the victory.
In qualifying, both drivers set the fourth-fastest time. At the start, Bronislav Formánek immediately gained two positions and, during his stint, built a crucial gap to their main rival, Shota Abkhazava, who shared the car with last year’s Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Final winner, Egor Orudzhev. Orudzhev topped the second qualifying session and was considered one of the main favourites for the win. However, during his stint, Rosina managed to keep him behind and, taking advantage of rivals’ mistakes, fought his way from third up to first place.
“It was a tough battle with Orudzhev over the final few laps before the red flag, but I’m confident we would have held our position anyway,” said Rosina. “The car was perfectly prepared, Broněk made a fantastic start. I’m emotional and honestly surprised — I don’t think any of us expected that we could pull this off.”
„Nürburing milujeme a chtěli jsme si tady sami v silné konkurenci potvrdit, že máme rychlost. Skočili jsme do toho po hlavě, bez testů. A povedlo se to,“ usmívá se Bronislav Formánek. „Věděl jsem, že když dovezu auto v pořádku na třetím místě, tak Štefan bude schopný vyhrát. Tímto výsledkem jsme potvrdili, že jsme šampiony Lamborghini Super Trofeo právem.“
The second race at the Nürburgring will get underway on Sunday at 10:30. Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra will start from twelfth on the grid, with the Formánek–Rosina crew currently fourth in the Pro-Am class.
