A drama with a happy ending: Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra celebrates its first European title

The Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra team has conquered the most prestigious one-make series in Europe the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe. Bronislav Formánek and Štefan Rosina defended their championship lead in the season finale at Jerez, sealing the European title.

„Winning this title has been our goal since 2019, when we first entered the Lamborghini Super Trofeo. Twice we came close, and both times it slipped away by the smallest margin. Now, we’ve finally achieved it,” said team manager Jiří Mičánek jr. The Lamborghini Huracán ST EVO2, carrying the Czech and Slovak national colours, finished both races in eighth place enough to secure the crucial lead and clinch the championship.

The Czechoslovak duo of Bronislav Formánek and Štefan Rosina set their sights on the title right from the opening round at Imola, collecting three victories and three second-place finishes over the course of the season. Heading into the final race weekend, they led the championship by 13.5 points and hoped to stretch their advantage to the decisive 15 points in Thursday’s opening race. However, the finale of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe was thrown into chaos by the weather – a new wave of torrential rain swept across southern Spain and heavily affected the first race. Run in intense downpours, the contest was eventually red-flagged and ended early. “I was hoping we could settle the championship fight already on Thursday, but in those wet conditions it was a real battle for survival. We focused on bringing the car home in one piece and not losing any crucial points – and that’s exactly what we managed to do,” said Bronislav Formánek.

Formánek and Rosina’s lead over their rivals from Boutsen VDS narrowed by another point, keeping a slim mathematical chance that the Czech team could still lose the PRO-AM title. For both drivers and Jiří Mičánek, it meant yet another sleepless night. But in the end, it all came together Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra held their ground in the final race and could finally celebrate the championship.

The decisive moment came right at the start of the second race, when Boutsen VDS driver Renaud Kuppens was hit by a rival and dropped to the back of the field. “At that point, it was clear that the chance of a turnaround was purely theoretical,” explained Jiří Mičánek. Despite the unpredictable race on a drying track, Rosina and Formánek held on to eighth place and could finally celebrate their long-awaited title.

The triumph also brings a sense of redemption for Štefan Rosina, who in previous years twice came close to winning the European title in the GT2 European Series but had to settle for second place each time. “We’ve got the title – it’s a historic moment. Right now, my feelings are quite mixed; it’s been a tough season and I think it’ll take a while before it really sinks in. None of us expected to become champions neither did our rivals, nor even Lamborghini itself. Today, a Czech team stands in the spotlight among the world’s best, and that’s something truly special,” reflected Štefan Rosina.

Tough luck for the juniors. Galáš’s fight for points ended after being hit by a rival

Luck, however, wasn’t on the side of the PRO-class pairing of Jáchym Galáš and Matěj Pavlíček. That was especially true in Sunday’s second race, where Galáš made an excellent start and was steadily climbing up the order on the drying track. But his progress was cut short when a rival hit him, sending his car into a spin and dropping him to the back of the field. Pavlíček then had to wrestle with the damaged car, eventually bringing it home in 16th place. In Saturday’s rain-soaked race, the duo finished 17th.
