The Mičánek Motorsport team, led by Jiří Mičánek Sr., a 25-time Czech and Czechoslovak champion on both circuits and hill climbs, is gaining new experience in the Porsche Sports Cup Deutschland. The legendary driver, who guided his son Tomáš Mičánek to a title in the prestigious one-make series, is now mentoring a new generation of drivers.”
“After the era of racing with Tomáš, we spent a long time in the Drivers Competition Pro class,” Jiří Mičánek explains the new challenge. “Over the past two years, our driver Josef Hrdlička has developed in that category, and this year he has decided to move up to the prestigious Porsche Sprint Challenge GT3 class.” For the experienced veteran, it’s a return to intensive coaching. “We’ve moved into a very competitive category, so our goal this year is to gain as much experience as possible, helping Pepa Hrdlička get accustomed to the grid,” Jiří Mičánek adds.
Even after Josef Hrdlička’s transfer, the Drivers Competition Pro category was far from empty. Mičánek Motorsport is now represented by newcomer Ondřej Liška, who immediately impressed with a surprising second-place finish in only the second race. The Gentleman category, judged on driving consistency, underwent a major change this year—organisers limited the use of professional timing, meaning drivers now have to rely more on their own skills once again. ‘Thanks to this, the entire grid, including the experienced drivers, started the season on an equal footing, and Ondřej made excellent use of the opportunity,’ says Jiří Mičánek.
The six-round Porsche Sports Cup Deutschland series continues in mid-July with a race at the Red Bull Ring.
