The pair of Lamborghini Huracán ST EVO2 cars from Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra face the second weekend of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe series. At Spa-Francorchamps, Bronislav Formánek and Štefan Rosina will defend their championship lead in the endurance championship.
„We’ll definitely be aiming to build on our performance at Imola, but we also know Spa will be challenging. The circuit doesn’t suit us perfectly, and in recent years we’ve also been unlucky here,” recalls team manager Jiří Mičánek Jr., referring to last year’s race when Bronislav Formánek was robbed of third place by an aggressive move from a rival that sent him spinning.
On the other hand, there are factors that could make the race at Spa-Francorchamps somewhat more manageable than the opening round at Imola, which Jiří Mičánek’s team dominated in the Pro-AM category. “There will be 53 cars on the grid, which is still an extremely high number, but Spa is a very long circuit, so hopefully the field will spread out during both qualifying and the race,” explains Jiří Mičánek.
Bronislav Formánek speaks of Spa with respect, particularly due to his experiences in previous years. However, he will be able to rely on the expertise of Štefan Rosina, who triumphed in the last two races he contested on the legendary Belgian circuit. “We’ll be aiming to build on our result from Imola,” says the Slovak driver, who began racing for Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra this season.
The junior drivers of Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra will also be gaining more experience in the prestigious championship. The pairing of Jáchym Galáš and Matěj Pavlíček, competing in the top PRO category, will be looking to improve on their result from Imola. “The juniors continue with intensive preparation – both physically and on the simulators. Their first Super Trofeo weekend was a huge learning experience, and I believe they’ve taken the best from it and will be able to put it to good use now,” says Jiří Mičánek.
Jáchym Galáš heads into the race weekend with a stronger starting point, having previously stood atop the podium at Spa-Francorchamps in the TCR Europe series. According to him, the seven-kilometre circuit will be somewhat more forgiving from a racing perspective than the shorter Imola track. “On the other hand, there aren’t many overtaking opportunities here, though at least qualifying should be more straightforward. Our pace at Imola was good, we just need to string together the individual sectors,” reflects Galáš.
Matěj Pavlíček is so far logging his Spa laps only on the simulator. “We’re heading into the weekend well motivated; we took lessons from Imola on what to improve and what to watch out for,” says Pavlíček. After a chaotic first race at Imola, which was disrupted and ultimately cut short by a storm, both drivers are hoping for a “normal” weekend, even though Spa-Francorchamps is famously unpredictable when it comes to weather. Currently, the forecast promises partly cloudy skies with zero chance of rain.
The second round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe takes place alongside the FIA World Endurance Championship. “It means we’ll be racing on the same weekend as big names like Daniil Kvyat, Jenson Button, Robert Kubica, and Valentino Rossi – and in front of packed grandstands,” says Jiří Mičánek, looking forward to the race atmosphere.
